Westminster Management

Westminster Management sets the policies for Westminster House, and along with the Board of Trustees of First Presbyterian Church (FPC) approves all meetings that are initiated and sustained in Westminster House (W/H). Westminster Management (W/M) met this past year on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:45 p.m. in the Memorial Hall Library. It is an open meeting and visitors are always welcome to attend. Current officers are:

         Tom Johnston - President

Tim R. - Vice President
         Terry T. - Secretary
         Sue W. - Treasurer

The entire board of 15 members is made up of eight FPC representatives and seven representatives from the recovering community. A rededication service is celebrated annually as part of regular Sunday worship. This year’s rededication was held the third Sunday in January. As always, we thank those who participated and the recovering community personnel who freely spoke about how W/H has helped and supported them in their recovery. There are over 60 meetings held weekly at Westminster House. The recovery person’s road is never easy, and they will always be one step from their addiction unless they rely on their sponsor(s) and have W/H to attend for support. Two major projects were completed this year in Westminster House along with major landscaping improvements outside. The first project involved the complete cleaning and reorganization of the Westminster House garage . Although this project was initiated and approved by the FPC Board of Trustees, some of the time and labor was donated by several members of the recovering community. These members along with members of FPC congregation donated their time and performed a thankless and wonderful task. The W/H garage is now much better organized. The second major project was the placement of reinforced chair rail around the inside perimeter walls of Room 1 in W/H. Several recovery members along with Tim Birdsall measured, ordered and installed these rails. The installation of this chair rail will save the walls from wear and tear caused by chair backs being placed too closely to the walls. Volunteers again came through for the outside projects that were accomplished. This involved clearing weeds, spreading new mulch, and planting sod in low places around Westminster House. As always, we extend our welcome to those groups that qualify as 12- step programs, and hope Westminster House can continue to provide its gracious support to all who are in the recovery community.
