PCM, our Campus Ministry program, is continuing its service to students at UD. This fall, we were able to arrange a spiritual retreat at Rehoboth, discussing the gifts of the Spirit and celebrating a monastic-style night service (Compline) on the beach. It was a really fun getaway for the students. Unfortunately, our planned work weekend at Meeting Ground had to be postponed. We hope to reschedule for this Spring. The Bible Study/ Fellowship night has been moved to Wednesdays to better fit the students’ evening class schedules. Three PCM students live in the House and have formed a lively little family. We especially appreciate all of the First Church members who have contributed their time to help make the house more livable. Some of the changes have included: moving the laundry room to be more accessible; scraping and painting the porch and fixing the porch swing; lots and lots of grounds cleanup; repairing damaged drywall in the foyer and a second floor bedroom; new lighting fixtures in the foyer and office; and cleaning out 2 decades of accumulated junk from the basement (now all we need to do is clean out the garage). The students are involved in the life of First Church in several ways. Three students are serving as Nursery workers (we need their expertise, and they need the money) while another is a Junior High UPY leader. They are also good ambassadors to greet other students who come to worship. We encourage the students to bring friends to our activities, and have had several drop-ins during the year. Now we need to get more exposure around the New Castle Presbytery to encourage more incoming freshmen to join us. That seems to be the best time to develop the PCM habit.
